About Us

Plymouth Church Neighborhood Foundation is an organization committed to ending homelessness.

We partner with congregations to develop housing for those who are homeless and those in the workforce who need moderate rents.

Since our founding we have created or preserved 433 homes for youth, families and adults, of which 260 are “supportive housing” where onsite services are provided by our service partners.  Today 167 new apartments are under development at six locations, including our first senior housing and our first building in North Minneapolis.

Our Families Moving Forward program provides emergency shelter, supportive housing and transitional services in partnership with host congregations.

Our partnership model

Our partnership model is unique. In housing development, our congregational partners help to shape the vision for who will be served at a new development, and commit significant leadership, time, and resources to creating the housing. With Families Moving Forward, more than 40 local congregations share resources, volunteers and leadership strength to provide overnight shelter, meals and financial support for helping families move from homelessness to home.

We collaborate with community agencies so residents at many of our buildings have easy access to supportive services that enhance the quality of their lives.

Our roots at Plymouth Church

More than a decade ago, members and clergy of Plymouth Congregational Church put their faith values into action by creating housing for formerly homeless adults in  a vacant nursing home across the street from their church. Church members persevered to develop support for the project, facing questions and concerns from neighborhood groups, potential funders and elected officials. They prevailed and Lydia Apartments became home to 40 people. Subsequent projects and congregational partnerships have led us beyond our "church of origin" into other neighborhoods in Minneapolis and St Paul to develop housing for youth, seniors, families and adults.
